Fin de la nuit

I finished reading the first two chapters from Koshy's AR book yesterday, and used the rest of the day to set out ideas based around this text, to start drafting the RF2 submission (or whatever the number is). I thought at first that I would write only about the paradigm section, but ended up with all sorts of notes about the intro, the LR and the data chapters - as well with a long list of texts to read. So it was a really useful session. I will get Koshy's book as it is turning out much better than I first thought: the vignettes are of interest, but mostly it's her presentation of 'key features' that is spurring me to consider all sorts of things within and beyond AR.

Today I attended a workshop organised by SEDA (the Staff and Educational Development Association) on 'Turning Conference Presentations into Publications' . This was an excellent event, with lots of time to share stories, write things up and get feedback. It was the first time this workshop was run, but if it turns up again I would recommend it to anyone who, like me, doesn't feel brave enough to face a journal editor.

Following my own trend of thought, I inadvertently completed one of Week 1 task - the selection of a photograph to express my identity. I could have chosen Flickr, but I can't say I like this social software. Nothing wrong with it, and it is possible to add commentary, but I just don't respond to the lack of context. Flickr makes me think of an uncurated exhibition where images/artefacts are just displayed without some kind of thread. Fine for end-of-degree student shows (though even here, 'end-of-year' is the thread). All this to say that I'd rather have my pictures embedded here in my blog, where I can give them an 'inflection'. I can also kid myself that they are likely to be less public. I like the idea of using images as part of a self-introduction - something to adopt in my own practice as a tutor :-).
